Cajun Craze: Masculine Fun Fold card for Dad!

Welcome to the Art with Heart team Instagram hop. You can follow us on Instagram starting  @craftwithkate. Each week we will showcase the Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 13 – Cajun Craze

This handmade card features the Trusty Tools stamp set and coordinating dies for a fun masculine card for, you guessed it, my DAD!

The panel on the left acts like a roller door to lock in under that right panel to display standing up. The Timeless Plaid Designer Series Paper (DSP) was perfect for this masculine card.

Here you can see the details I’ve used on each of the narrow panels. I masked off each panel and stamped the lines using the Stripes and Dots stamp set in Versamark ink, added Copper WOW Emboss Powder and melted it with my heat tool. The nuts & bolts were also copper embossed. To do this, I dragged the Versamark ink pad across some Basic White card, added Emboss Powder and melted it, then I could die cut as many nuts & bolts that I needed. Try die cutting first then embossing each one individually and not burning your fingers!!!

This is what it looks like when the card is closed (flat) to put into an envelope.

The hammer, paint brush and measuring tape were stamped and coloured using Watercolor Pencils and a Blender Pen to smooth out the colour. The handle of the hammer was stamped directly onto some more DSP and fussy cut to adhere, doesn’t it look cool? This is called paper piecing!

The DAD was copper embossed and fussy cut and added on dimensionals. This entire panel has dimensionals behind it, so the roller door can sit behine to display.

Thanks for dropping by. I hope you join me next Wednesday for Calypso Coral inspiration.

Blueberry Bushel: Father’s Day Joy Fold card

Welcome to the Colour Creations Instahop. You can follow us on Instagram starting  @craftwithkate. Each week we will showcase the Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 11 – Blueberry Bushel

This handmade Father’s Day fun fold card features the Textured Notes stamp set, Pretty Florals dies and the Botanical Textures Designer Series Paper (DSP).

I started with a piece of the DSP and using Blending Brushes, added the ink from Blueberry Bushel, Lost Lagoon to Coastal Cabana (I think there was some Lemon Lime Twist ink on my brush, oopsies). Once done I splattered some Blueberry Bushel ink for extra texture. On the centre piece, I repeated the process, but I also stamped some of the images from the Textured Notes stamp set. After I die cut some leaves in Lost Lagoon card and blended some Blueberry Bushel ink to the tips, I used the die cut negative piece to use as a stencil and added some blended leaves behind the focal image.

I added the small triangle in the bottom corner to hold the card closed. Simply slide the centre piece out to open the card, rather than creating a belly band! The main image is stamped and fussy cut with some ink blending to soften the white cardstock. The sentiment is from the Ephemera pack. These are brilliant for adding quick sentiments to your cards.

Today I feature the For the Books bundle in the new 2025 Jan-Apr Mini catalogue with this cool bookmark card; a gift within the card (cased idea from Cards by Juliet).

Some Timeless Plaid DSP is added to the front left panel and the Fun Patterns Embossing Folder (currently on sale in the Last Chance Products) is used on the right panel. The little book is die cut (Misty Moonlight and Basic White) and the little tassels (Basic White & Calypso Coral) are added on some Gold Twisted Thread. The sentiment is stamped onto an Everyday Arches die (new in Online Exclusives).

On the inside the sentiment and images are stamped and then coloured using a Blender Pen.

To use Blender Pens

  1. Stamp an image in Tuxedo Black Memento ink or Jet Black StāzOn ink on Basic White Cardstock. Allow the ink to dry.
  2. Squeeze a Classic Stampin’ Pad in the middle to transfer some ink to the inside of the lid (or you can use Classic Stampin’ Ink Refills).
  3. Pick up some ink with your Blender Pen and colour your image. Add more ink for darker shades.
  4. When changing colours or finishing your project, clean the Blender Pen by simply scribbling on scrap paper until there’s no more colour transferring from the pen.

Artist Tips

  • Blender Pens may stain, but that won’t affect the results. Reuse them again and again!
  • Blender Pens give you a watercolour effect, but they don’t saturate the paper like Water Painters can.
  • Blender Pens give you more colour options than Watercolor Pencils because they can be used with any Classic Stampin’ Ink.
  • Blender Pens provide a less-intense result than Stampin’ Blends.
  • Blender Pens were a perfect fit for the books in the For the Books Stamp Set because their fine tips work well with smaller images and details.

As a bonus, when you spend $100+ you get to select free product from the Saleabration brochure. This card showcases two of the free products; Bloom Impressions Designer Paper and the Pick a Season stamp set.

Copper Clay: Frosted Forest Masculine Birthday card

2024-25 blog header

I’m thrilled you are here to join us each Wednesday evening for the AWHT Colour Creations Blog Hop showcasing the full range of 50+ gorgeous Stampin’ Up! colours.

Week 19 – Copper Clay

Today I feature the Frosted Forest bundle in this Masculine card. Masculine cards are certainly not my strength, but I had a go!

I began by cutting two strips of Copper Clay card, spritzed them well with water and scrunched them up and left them to dry while I worked on the rest of the card.

I started with a layer of Granny Apple Green cardstock and some Take a Bow Designer Series Paper (DSP). Before gluing these together, I diecut the leafy top die from the centre of the DSP. Then these two layers are glued together and placed into my Timber 3D Embossing Folder to add some texture. This is glued to the Copper Clay card base.

Once the scrunched strips were die, I flattened them slightly and added them to the card base. Don’t they create a lovely texture?!!

The tree image is made up of three dies and these pieces are glued together. he sentiment is heat embossed with Copper WOW Embossing Powder onto Garden Green cardstock and fussy cut. Some Copper Metallic dots were added to finish.

On the inside (and envelope) I stamped the same tree image. I matted this insert on some Garden Green card to carry across the colours from the front.

Sahara Sand: Trifold Birthday card

2022-23 CCBH Logo

Each week some of the Art With Heart team are joining  the Colour Creations Blog Hop to bring you creative inspiration showcasing our range of 50+ gorgeous Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 44 – Sahara Sand

Today I have chosen a trifold card, that folds flat to fit into a standard DL envelope. This is a simple ‘fancy fold’ design, and perfect for any occasion.

Starting with an A4 sheet, I cut it down to 27cm x 21cm and scored the long edge at 9cm & 18cm. I marked with a pencil at 7.5cm on the short edge and cut from that mark up to the opposite corner.

Trifold birthday card by Kate Morgan, Stampin Up Australia 2023 Like an Animal DSP, Happier Than Happy Bundle.

I wanted to use the Like an Animal DSP which has Sahara Sand listed as one of the colours. I used this to decorate the front panel and the inside panel. The centre panel I embossed some Sahara Sand card with the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder to add some texture.

I took some Sweet Sorbet Glimmer Paper and punched 2 balloons. Adding some White Baker’s Twine for the string.

The bear (Happier Than Happy stamp set) was stamped twice using the Stamparatus to get a darker tone before die cutting it with the coordinating Happy Forest dies.

The Stylish Shapes circle die was used to cut some Vellum Basics Specialty Designer Series Paper which the bear is glued to, then some Dimensionals added behind the bear to pop it up a little on the card front.

On the inside centre panel, using the Stamparatus again, I stamped the ‘happy’ 3 times using the hinge stamping technique and then the ‘birthday’ in Sweet Sorbet ink across the centre.

On the inside back panel, another circle of Vellum was cut with the returning 2″ Circle Punch and the fox added on dimensionals with white baker’s twine wrapped around his tail to a smaller balloon. The fox was stamped the same way as the bear, but I also added a little Sweet Sorbet ink with a dauber directly to the stamp for a little extra shading.

Week 8 – Cajun Craze

Well, here we are at Cajun Craze, my least used colour in the range! I really struggle with this colour and to me it would be great tone for Terracotta pots, but of course I do not have any stamp sets of this kind!

My next idea is chocolate or coffee, I mean who doesn’t love either of these?!!!! The Nothing’s Better Than stamp set and coordinating Love You More Than dies were the go, along with the Stitched So Sweetly dies for the sentiment to be stamped on. I had all these done but nothing in the background. I tried lots of different papers, but nothing seemed to work, then I stumbled across this paper from the In Good Taste papers (on sale this month!) and I think it works beautifully, a bit like a tablecloth.

Masculine Creative Showcase with the Art with Heart Team

AWHT Creative Showcase Masculine

Welcome to our new Monthly Creative Showcase with the Art With Heart Team!

This month we are featuring Masculine themed projects. We have many masculine themed products in the Stampin’ Up! range including Stamp Sets and coordinating Dies, Designer Series Papers, Embellishments and Embossing Folders. The Art With Heart Team have a wonderful selection of projects to inspire you to create Masculine Masterpieces.

Now let’s get started!

This set of cards were very quick to create and I shared this style with my class ladies to help them cut into their Designer Series Papers. Starting with a simple card base, then cut one piece of DSP slightly smaller (5mm). Take the DSP and cut about a third off the bottom, then flip that piece over to the reverse design. Glue these to your card then add a strip of Tear & Tape across the join. Add some of the Braided Burlap Trim. Punch some 2″ Circles and stamp a sentiment and add a trinket with a glue dot!

This is a wonderful way to use your pretty DSPs without covering too much of the pattern with other elements. You can whip up a whole bunch of these in minutes.

My next project is a pop up box card or some call it a Card in a Box, but I wanted a longer length than usual. I needed it to be a landscape style for my golf scene, and it still fits into a C6 envelope!

Masculine card using Stampin Up Clubhouse Golf by Kate Morgan Australia 2020.

Did you know that the golf ball can be cut out using your 1″ circle punch?!! Yep, it’s the perfect fit!!!

I stamped the entire image in Garden Green and die cut it out, then stamped the image again in Smoky Slate. Instead of die cutting, punch the golf ball and glue it to the die cut!

I also glued some of the grass die cuts in front and some behind the centre section for more depth. How cool are these wooden elements too?!

The back of the card is where you write your message and I have decorated it with some more of the DSP and a sentiment.

A tip: when gluing in the golfer, it is best to place your card on top of your envelope to ensure that all the images fit within the size of the envelope!

Traveler

Dear Crafters,

Today I share a card that I have made using a stamp set that has continued into the new annual catalogue, Traveler.

I was needing some Farewell cards and what better stamp set could I use for someone leaving and wanting to spend their retired years travelling.

Traveler Stampin' Up!

I used Baked Brown Sugar, Basic Black & Crumb Cake, along with the retired Dictionary Background Stamp. Some Linen Thread was tied around the card before the circles were added with dimensionals.

Traveler Stampin' Up!

I didn’t have a stamp “farewell” so I printed that from the computer, then used my Word Window punch.

I stamped the suitcase image on the inside of the card and the envelope!

Motorbike for the boys

Dear Crafters,

Today I share a card I made using MDS (My Digital Studio), the computer program that Stampin’ Up! have had for a few years now, and will no longer offer from 31st May 2015. When I heard this is was disappointed, as I had purchased many downloads and use the program for my scrapbooking and designing my blog headers. But in saying this, we can still use the program, there just won’t be access to new downloads.

This card was made for a young man in his 20s for his birthday. At that age, I find masculine cards more difficult, but love this motorbike stamp which I downloaded in MDS for only a couple of dollars and can use as many times as I like!!!

Motorbike

I printed the image onto white card and cut it to the size required. I coloured it with Stampin’ Write Markers. As the saying goes, Red goes faster, so that is what I chose!!!!

How awesome does it look?!!!

Motorbike

I layered it on Basic Grey card and Real Red and added some coordinating Candy Dots.

I would love you to comment below with your thoughts on this card.

Masculine, Techniques & Tutorials

Water Wash By The Tide

Dear Crafters,

Water Wash Technique with By The Tide

Today I share a masculine card created with the Water Wash technique, something I haven’t done a lot of experimenting with, but had some fun in the process.

Most of the cards I have seen using this technique have been feminine cards, so my challenge to myself, was to create a masculine card.

By the Tide

I stamped the images and embossed them all with clear embossing powder and heat set them. This was so that when I added the watercolour over the top, the images didn’t run. I used Pool Party for the first wash over the entire card, then went back and added colour from the bottom with Lost Lagoon. This added the depth to the card. I also added a little (diluted) colour of each of the images over the top and around them to give them a “glow”.

The ink pads I used for the images were: Coral (Versamark & dabbed Calypso Coral), Seahorse (Hello Honey), Fish (Mossy Meadow), Crayfish (Cajun Craze).

By the Tide

I added the splatter by tapping the brush with the Lost Lagoon ink. I used my heat tool to dry it so it didn’t run too much. I stamped happy birthday then used the Word Window punch before attaching it with dimensionals.

I love how this coral has a glow because I used the Versamark ink then dabbed the Calypso Coral over the top before pressing it onto the white watercolour card stock.

Once the card was dry, I also ran the Lost Lagoon Stampin’ Write Marker around the edge of the card, not only to define the border, but also to colour the side edges of the white card. This is a handy tip instead of adding another layer of card stock!

By the Tide

Don’t forget to decorate the inside of your card and your envelope! Do you do this? Because I can never send a card in the mail that has a nude envelope!!!

By the Tide

I would love you to comment below with your thoughts on this card.
