Sponging & Reflection technique

Dear Crafters,

Today I share a card made using the sponging & reflection technique.

Now I have to say, I am a HUGE fan of artists who are great with using sponges, but I have to say, I am not.  I have a go and that is the point of this card. You need to try new things and maybe one day, you too will accomplish new highs.

The very first thing I did, was to stamp the image in basic black ink. Then I stamped that same image onto some acetate and quickly applied the acetate to the card to create the reflection.

Then I placed a large post it note across the bottom of the main image to create the horizon first. I used sponge daubers to keep adding colour until I was happy with it. Be careful not to add too much, as you can always add more, not take it away!!!

Then I removed the post it note and did the lower section of the card. I added some washi tape and the sentiment overlay with a stapler.

Inks: Marina Mist, Soft Suede, So Saffron, Basic Black, Island Indigo

How do you think I did with the sponging? Yeah, needs improvement, but that will come with more practice!

Butterflies, Handmade Cards, Sympathy

With Sympathy

Dear Crafters,

Today I share a card which is something that we often need many of, but find it hard to make them at the time when they are required. So, I like to have a little stash of these put away for that very moment to send to a loved one when they most need it.

The Sympathy Card

Serene Silhouettes

The base card is So Saffron with a layer of Whisper White which has been stamped with the Serene Silhouette stamp set using the masking technique. This means that I have used a large post it note and put it across the card about 2 inches from the top. Stamp the images in multiple colours, stamping over the top of the post it note so it gives that nice white border in the centre of the card. Peel the post it note off, turn it upside down and put it down another 1.5 inches so it will create that white centre. Repeat the stamping on the bottom section of the card.

I often make a few of these and with this style of card, you can add any type of sentiment to the white section as required.

Serene Silhouettes

I added a butterfly stamped with Papillon Potpourri and punched with the Bitty Butterfly punch.

Be sure to decorate the inside panel of your card and even the envelope!

Challenges, JAI, Techniques & Tutorials

Clear Block Stamping

Hello Crafters,

The challenge this week is Just Add Ink is Clear Block Stamping, JAI#237.

I have to admit I have never tried this technique before and this is one reason I love entering these challenges. It really does challenge us to try different styles!

Clear Block Stamping

I started with a card base of Lost Lagoon. I then got out the Serene Silhouettes Stamp Set and used the Versamark Ink to stamp the image onto Whisper White card stock. Then embossed it with clear embossing powder and heat set it.

Next I chose my colours, Island Indigo, Lost Lagoon & Pool Party. I used my ‘H’ Clear Block and inked it up on the ink pads starting at the top with Island Indigo. Once I stamped all the white card, I went back over the colours with a sponge dauber to soften and fill in the missing gaps.

Serene Silhouettes

The little raindrops I created by dropping some crystal effects onto my silicone mat and letting them dry before adhering to my card with Tombo glue.

I added a strip of the clear block stamping technique to the bottom of inside of my card and stamped the same flower image in Island Indigo ink just in the bottom corner.

Just Add Ink Clear Blocking

I added the sentiment from the Good Greetings Stamp Set in Island Indigo.

This background is very cheap and easy to create, why don’t you give it a go too.

Please leave a comment below, what you think of this technique.

Why don’t you give a challenge a go, they are so much fun. Head across to the Just Add Ink page for more inspiration and see how the designers interpreted this challenge.
