JAI#200 ~ Summer Flowers

Hello Crafters,

This week at Just Add Ink is the challenge using the beautiful inspiration picture by Nikki.

This just yells summer to me with gorgeous yellows, greens & whites!

JAI#200

I don’t have anything so daisy like, but I love the Secret Garden stamp set and coordinating framelits. Initially I stamped the flowers in daffodil delight, but it didn’t have enough interest, so I used the technique called Kissing. To do this, you ink up the flower stamp with the Daffodil Delight ink, then ink up another stamp with Tangerine Tango ink. Press (KISS) the 2 stamps together before stamping the flower onto the white cardstock. Don’t you agree it gives more interest?

Here is a closer look!

JAI#200

Are you wondering how I created the background? I thought you may. I used the Simply Scored Tool and scored the crosshatch pattern. Then did the same on another scrap piece of card and cut part of it away to create a diamond template (see below). Line the template up on your cardstock and using a sponge dauber, sponge the ink in the bottom of each diamond!

JAI#200

I love this summery style although I am not so good in the heat. Is anyone else suffering with these days over 30 degrees? I like to hibernate and stay inside with the cooler on…. maybe it’s just my excuse to stay home and stamp!!!

Why don’t you have a go and some of the weekly challenges too on the Just Add Ink page!

Card in a Box ~ 60th Birthday

Hello Crafters,

I hope everyone is staying cool in this Melbourne heat, as I am staying indoors and what better way to craft than with the aircon on!

Who is missing the footy? I know I sure am and thought I would share with you a card I was asked to  make by a work colleague. As soon as she said to make a card for a male turning 60, I knew straight away what to make and can’t wait to share it with you!

Yes I love the card in a box, and so here is another one for this mad Geelong Cats supporter.

I think any Cats fan would love to receive this, don’t you? This card could be customised to any team in the AFL or any league for that matter.

You can see I have cut in Silver Glimmer paper (#124005), the numbers from the Stampin’ Up! Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies (#127553)

Handmade Piano Card

Hello Crafters,
I hope everyone is having a wonderful long weekend here in Australia to celebrate Australia Day, as I know I sure am!
Who loves a little music? I know I sure do and love crafting while listening to my favourite radio station.
Well, it gave me an idea, why not create a card with some piano keys. I also remember seeing something similar on Pinterest some time back and knew I had to have a go. Here’s what I came up with!
Piano Handmade Card
Don’t you think it looks just like the keys on a piano?
I used the Stampin’ Up! Word Window Punch to create the keys and then glue them onto the black card before mounting onto white card. I added the Bitty Butterfly Punch to add a little colour.
Be sure to return to my blog tomorrow for a very exciting post and the beginning of Sale-a-bration 2014!!!!

Happy Australia Day

Hello Crafters,

Happy Australia Day to everyone plus I would like to wish my dad a very happy birthday on this wonderful sunny Melbourne day!

My girls and I will be heading over to dad’s shortly to help him celebrate his birthday with a yummy lunch, but first I had to share with you the box envelope I made to put his card in and the tickets we got him for his birthday. The Envelope Punch Board (EPB) has become a much loved tool in my house since it became available through Stampin’ Up! in October.

EPB

Seeing as my dad loves the ocean, almost as much as he loves his golf (I made a golf card!) I thought I would use some of the High Tide Designer Series Paper from the new Occasions catalogue which is available for purchase in only 2 more days!

I also used the By the Tide Stamp Set for the images.

and here is a close up of the detail

EPB

I hope you are all having a wonderful Australia Day and long weekend, and I look forward to showing you some more items in the next few days.

Flower Pot Card

Morning Crafters,

Here is my take on the Flower Pot card which has been around for years, but this is my first time creating one ~ I don’t know why it took me so long, when it was so simple!

I have used Soft Suede cardstock 9″ x 3-1/2″ then scored it at 3-1/2″ & 7″.

Fold in a zigzag and using a border punch, create the edge on the flower pot.

Measure in 1/2″ from each side at the bottom of the pot and mark with a pencil. Holding up the flap, draw a line from the pencil mark to the top corner to create the pot shape. Cut along each of these lines through the double thickness of cardstock.

Take some ribbon and tie it around the top of the flower pot (as shown). This holds the card together without any gluing!!!

Flower Pot Card   Flower Pot Card

Take a piece of soft suede card measured at 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ and a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock of 2-1/4″ x 4-1/4″.

Layer these on top of each other. This creates the section for your written message and slides into the pot.

Once you have this in the pot, decorate as desired, ensuring you cover the top part of the card and that some of the images sit in front of the pot.

HANDY TIP: It is also a good idea to lay this onto an envelope so as not to add too much height that it won’t fit into a standard size envelope!!!!

I have used Real Red, Coastal Cabana and the Fresh Prints Designer Series paper stack, along with the Simple Stems Stamp set and the coordinating Secret Garden Framelits. This stamp set and DSP are available from 28th January during Sale-a-bration!

Be sure to let me know what you think of my take on the Flower Pot card!

JAI#199: Fresh Prints Happiness

Hello Crafters,

This week, I am doing something out of the ordinary and having my first go at a sketch challenge at Just Add Ink! Yay me!!!!

Having never participated in a sketch before, I am very nervous and made a card that is not really my style. It is quite busy, when I usually make fairly clean style cards.

I have tried to stay with the circle elements, but have placed the ribbon to the opposite side.  Here’s what I came up with, using the beautiful Fresh Prints Designer Series paper. I love these colours together and when just had to have this paper stack.

JAI Challenge

This Designer Series paper stack will be available during Sale-a-bration, starting 28th January through to 31st March . Be sure to email a request for your brochures today and you will be sure to love the new products too. There are also FREE products to choose from with every $90 spent!

Sweet Sorbet Sunburst Baby

Hello Crafters,

Well, it’s not long now until the Occasions Catalogue and Sale-a-bration begins on 28th January!

Here is another sneak peek at some of the items that will be available.

This Sunburst technique is so easy to create and it showcases a variety of the papers in the Sweet Sorbet Designer Series Paper pack, which includes the colours: Crisp Canteloupe, Pistachio Pudding, Basic Black, Whisper White, Pool Party, Summer Starfruit & Sahara Sand.

I have also used one of the stamps in the Baby, We’ve Grown stamp set available in the new Occasions Catalogue. The other is from That’s the Ticket, stamped in Pistachio Pudding and cut out with paper snips, then adhered with dimensionals.

My card matt is Sahara Sand on a white card base and the circle was punched out twice with the 2 1/2″ circle punch.

I used the coordinating Stampin’ Write Markers to colour the image.

I hope you like my baby card showcasing some new products available from 28th January!

Cascading Card

Hello Crafters,

Here is another style of card that I have had on my list to make and finally got around to trying it. It is a bit like a concertina and folds flat to be able to send in the post!

This is the cascading card and I have seen many variations of it. I made this simple version but next time will spend more time in decorating it, but this gives you an idea of how it can look!

I have used some of the new items in the upcoming Occasions catalogue available online from 28th January.

Simple Stems, part 2

Hello Stampers,

A couple of days ago I showcased some samples using the Simple Stems Stamp Set which is in the new Occasions Catalogue, available for purchase from 28th January.

Here is another sample using that same stamp set, although a different type of flower from that set.

I have used Gumball Green and Raspberry Ripple in this card. The flowers remind me so much of our family holiday to Thailand last year, although they were more red that Raspberry Ripple, but I just love this colour combination.

I also added a Simply Pressed Clay flower embellishment and coloured it with the Gumball Green Stampin’ Write Marker.

Stunning Spiral Flowers

Hello Stampers,

Today I want to share with you another new item from the Occasions Catalogue, available for purchase from 28th January.

These gorgeous flowers are easy to create with one simple die. Click Here to watch a video tutorial.

To create them, I used the die to cut out the flower using my Big Shot, then sponged the edges with a sponge dauber before rolling it up using a skewer to create the flower. I have found the easiest and quickest way to glue them, is by using a hot glue gun and a silicone mat.
