Introducing Wild Wheat

2023-2024 AWH Colour Creations header

Each week some of the Art With Heart team are joining  the Colour Creations Blog Hop to bring you creative inspiration showcasing our range of 50+ gorgeous Stampin’ Up! colours.

Week 5 – Wild Wheat

Today brings us to the fifth new In Color, Wild Wheat. I have to admit, this colour does not exactly excite me, but hey, with any luck it will grow on me!

I started this card today by designing the Patchwork Pieces die with some of the 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper Packs; Lost Lagoon from the Subtles pack, Melon Mambo from the Brights pack and Wild Wheat from the In Colors pack. Because I was using 3 different colours, meant I would be able to create 3 lots of patchwork pieces. I cut some white card to the size of the large die, which I added Stampin’ Seal to the entire piece, so the patchwork pieces would be able to stick to it.

My Wild Wheat card base (27.5cm x 13cm) is folded in 3, scored @ 9.2cm & 18.4cm.
You can see the Lost Lagoon Bordered ribbon is adhered to the front section of the card only, so it can be wrapped around the card to close it.

The 3 Patchwork panels are adhered to the front, inside and the back panel. The 3rd panel has the Basic White card cut with the Radiating Stitches dies to write your message. These dies were also used to cut the heart and circle. The ‘happy birthday’ sentiment is the Wanted to Say dies. The sentiment on the front [Dainty Delight] is stamped in Versamark Ink, White Emboss Powder added before heat setting with Heat Tool. It was added to the card with Dimensionals.

I decided to make a second card, but this time reducing the amount of Wild Wheat. I started by taking a Water Painter and some ink and applying it to some Fluid 100 Water Colour Paper. While it was still damp, I took my Boho Blue Blends Marker and flicking it using the lid of the pen, I added some splatters. I repeated this with the Moody Mauve Blends.

The Cheerful Daisies Bundle and Fresh as a Daisy Designer Series Paper were my features for this card. I die cut the daisies in Basic White card. The centres are cut from the Water coloured paper as are the leaves. I also used the More Dazzle Specialty Paper to cut some extra leaves for sparkle!

The centre panel in the background, is Wild Wheat and I stamped the leaf image in 2nd generation stamping; meaning I inked the stamp, stamped on some paper before onto the card strip. A piece of the dotty design of the Vellum Basics Specialty pack was cut using the Nested Essentials dies and placed over the centre of the 3 strips. I’m not sure if you can see the 2 lines at the top and 2 at the bottom of the white layer? I added these for some extra interest using my scoring blade in my Trimmer.

  1. What great cards Kate, I love the trifold patchwork one! Gorgeous colour combination choice, wild wheat is rather a hard one I think but you have done a fantastic job! Your daisy card is really pretty and I love all your sparkle!

  3. Two beautiful cards Kate, and there’s no way I could pick a favourite. There is so much to love about both of them. I love how your first card shows Wild Wheat more predominately, and card 2 shows smaller elements of it. I love the touch of sparkle on your second card, and the vellum behind the flowers to soften the whole look.

  5. Two great cards Kate and you are doing a great job of convincing me to buy Patchwork Pieces, being a quilter! I do have to say though the daisy one is my favourite.

  6. I thought you were clever Kate, using two of your 3 patchwork panels on the one card, the colours are dynamic. I love the 2nd card with the leaves stamped on the Wild Wheat, and the arrangement of flowers over.
