Introducing Pecan Pie

2023-2024 AWH Colour Creations header

Each week some of the Art With Heart team are joining  the Colour Creations Blog Hop to bring you creative inspiration showcasing our range of 50+ gorgeous Stampin’ Up! colours.

Week 9 – Pecan Pie

Today brings us to another new core colour to the Neutrals Collection, Pecan Pie. When I first saw this particular piece of patterned paper in the Earthen Elegance DSP pack, it looked like it had texture. In running my fingers across it, it was flat and not bumpy. This gave me the idea of wanting to add that bumpy texture for even greater effect.

On my Pecan Pie cardbase, I’ve added a piece of Basic Black card. Cut a piece of Earthen Elegance DSP and use your Take Your Pick Tool with the small stylus end and place your DSP onto something soft. I used the foam from the Stamparatus, but you could also use the foam from the Acrylic Block Caddy, or if you have the Piercing Mat. Using the stylus, draw around all the circle images. Turn the DSP over and now draw over those circles and fill them in. This adds such a wonderful 3D effect. This can now be glued to the Black layer.

On another piece of Basic Black card, I wrapped a piece of Pecan Pie 1/2″ Bordered Ribbon around it and adhered it with Stampin’ Seal. The sentiment (Charming Sentiments stamp set) was heat embossed in White Emboss Powder and cut out using the Sentiment Silhouettes dies and adhered to the ribbon with Stampin’ Seal.

To create the leaves, I put a few drops of Isocol (rubbing alcohol) onto an acrylic block and squirted some of the bronze Metallic Enamel Effects Basics and mixed it with my Water Painter & applied it to some Pecan Pie card and Basic White card. I was so surprised how totally different they look. This was a bit of an experiment, but I was happy with the result.  I took the leaves from the Aspen Trees dies and cut out 2 smaller leaves and the larger leaf from the Vellum Basics Specialty DSP. To finish off, I added a tiny double Linen Thread bow with a rolled up Glue Dot.

  1. Kate that added dimension to the DSP is so effective. I love what you have done to the leaves too! The gorgeous ribbon seems to have that extra lift with the black behind it too! Gorgeous card! Love it!

  2. Wow oh wow, Kate. I adore your card with its gorgeous details. Brilliant idea to add dimension to the DSP. I’d love to see it IRL. And the leaves … so beautiful. Love the addition of the Bronze Enamel Effects with Isopropyl – I’m excited to try it out when the Enamel Effects arrive in my current order.

  3. Wow Kate what a task to add the dimension to the paper but so effective. Thanks for explaining how you did it rather than just using an embossing folder. You should be happy with the result of using Isocol for the leaves. It’s really effective.

  4. Great card, Kate, with lots of beautiful details. I love how you added dimension to the “bits” that looked like they already had dimension! The variety of leaves, and the technique you used with Enamel Effects, looks beautiful.
