Week 19 – Evening Evergreen
Today I am using a bundle that is new to me, the Pretty Birds Bundle which includes the Pretty Birds Stamp Set and the Birdhouse Dies. I just love the bird cage die and I had to use it with Gold Foil Sheets.
When I was a kid, I had two budgies, Sky and Matilda. They loved it when I would take the cage outside and hang in the trees to be with nature. They would chirp away happily. So, that was the inspiration for this card, with the Happy Forest Friends Designer Series Paper in the background. I found it a little too much and the cage got lost, so I added a layer of vellum over the DSP to tone it down.
I took a piece of the Fluid 100 Watercolour Paper and using the Water Painters, added some Evening Evergreen and Parakeet Party ink. Once it was dry, I stamped the budgie a couple of times with Memento Black ink. Because the colour wasn’t bold enough once dry, I used my Daffodil Delight, Parakeet Party and Tahitian Tide Stampin’ Blends Markers to strengthen the colour. Once I die cut the birds, I also die cut the perch in Evening Evergreen card and added them to the vellum. The cage is popped up on mini dimensionals. The sentiment was stamped and added on min dimensionals also. The leaves are die cut from the leftover water-coloured paper and Evening Evergreen card. These were added with Multipurpose glue. Once everything was adhered to the vellum, I flipped it over and added glue behind all the die cut pieces so it doesn’t show through.
On the inside I stamped the smaller birdhouse and attached a water-coloured bow and another budgie.

How delightful! My budgie was blue and called Pilot. I was so heartbroken when my little sister opened the cage door to pat him, and off he flew! I hadn’t even noticed this bundle in the catalogue, but I absolutely love what you’ve made with it. The vellum softens the background perfectly, and the layering over the top is fabulous.

I just love that you have taken a gorgeous childhood memory and shared it as the story behind your card, Kate. It makes the card even more delightful. I definitely have the budgies on my wishlist!

You initially tricked me with the background, Kate, but totally understand you not wanting to detract from the gorgeous budgie. The inside of the card is adorable too.

Oh Kate, your pretty bird card is so gorgeous. I love your inspiration. The Happy Forrest Friends (with Vellum) is great as the background. Your watercolouring is beautiful. Love the way you added Blends colouring to your budgies and your leaves are delightful, especially the leaf that fell to the bottom. Xxx

I love that your childhood budgies are the inspiration for your gorgeous birdcage in nature, Kate. This is a gorgeous card and your colouring of the budgie is spot on! I especially love the little details in this die set, such as the chin to hang your golden cage – stunning!
