Each Monday, some of the Art With Heart team are joining the Heart of Christmas Blog Hop to bring you creative inspiration showcasing our September-December Mini catalogue and Annual catalogue Christmas products.
Heart of Christmas Week 9
Today, I am using dies and masks to create my background, but first I started with a Pretty Peacock card base and a layer of the same cardstock 10mm shorter. Using a Sponge Dauber I added ink around the edges. I took a scrap piece of A6 cardstock and diecut it with the Deckled Rectangle dies. Remove the diecut piece and keep the frame as that’s what we are using to create the blended layer. Place this frame onto some Basic White card and use the Blending Brushes and Pretty Peacock ink. Add colour, darker in some areas and lighter in others.

Now take one of the masks from the Artistic Mix Decorative Masks and place it over the frame. Add more of the same ink using the same technique. When you remove the mask/frame, take the next size rectangle die to what you initially used and diecut around the blending to create a small white border. How beautiful does it look?!!

Take some Sweet Sorbet Twine and wrap it around the centre 3 times and tie in a knot (this is hidden behind the feature image). Stamp the image in Black Memento ink and diecut with the coordinating die. I used Stampin Blends Combo Markers to colour; Pretty Peacock dark for the holly, Sweet Sorbet for the berries, Parakeet Party for the leaves and the Light Pretty Peacock to fill in the blank areas so it’s not so stark! Some Adhesive-backed Glitter Sequins are added. The berries have some Fine Tip Glue added to create a beautiful shine.
The sentiment (Joy of Noel stamp set) on the front is stamped and fussy cut and added with Mini Dimensionals. The sentiment inside is from the Joy to You stamp set.
As you can see, I have 2 inserts here. This is why I always stamp them before gluing them inside my card – I forgot I was creating a landscape card and stamped it in portrait, and it wasn’t until I went to glue it inside that I realised… oopsie. So I had to create a second one, this time in the correct orientation!!! At least I have an insert ready for another card!

Thanks for dropping by. I hope you can join me next Monday for more festive inspiration!

Beautiful card Kate. The white border around your lovely focal piece really does give your design a pop. Thanks for sharing your ‘mistake.’ I make portrait card so often that I forget and stamp the insides the ‘wrong’ way far too often than I would like to admit. As you say, just an opportunity to make another card.

Kate I love the white masked Deckled border on your card. The colours are lovely especially on the Holly and berries stamped image.

Your card is very pretty and festive, Kate. That mask works so well ‘on point’ for Christmas cards. I’ve done the same thing with inserts as I make less landscape cards, so brain goes on auto pilot!

A gorgeous card Kate. That fine white border is so clever! Everything about this card is clever though. Your masking is lovely and the holly & berry image looked like it was stamped onto vellum until I read that it’s coloured with your blends. Love it!!!

Beautiful card Kate. I love your colour combo. Your masking to create a white border around the masked & blended design is so effective. I love your layering too. xxx

Fabulous, Kate! I love the white border around the inked panel, and the simple layering over the top suits it perfectly. Your inside ooops is something that I would do!

Stunning card Kate, lots of lovely layers. Great tip for getting a white border around your focal piece. I thought it was a separate layer to start with. I also love the idea of colouring the background of the die cut piece so that it blends a bit more.

That background (well, your whole card!) is oh-so-beautiful, Kate. I love the white border around the Deckled Rectangle panel on which you’ve used the mask. Love your colour choices, too.
