Monthly Creative Showcase: Sketch challenge

AWHT Creative Showcase

For tonight’s showcase, we were given a card sketch as a starting point for inspiration. This is something that I really struggle with, but really wanted to challenge myself to have a go at.

Sketch Challenge

This card is for my Father-in-law birthday so I started with the Well Suited DSP. I chose Pacific Point as my card base and then layered two patterns of the DSP, joining them under the Seaside Spray Scallop Ribbon Trim. The stitched triangles are embossed using the Scripty 3D, Tasteful Textile 3D & Hammered Metal 3D Textured Impressions Embossing Folders. The Happy Birthday (Sweet Ice Cream stamp set) is stamped in Night of Navy ink, fussy cut with Paper Snips then added with Dimensionals.

Thanks to Ros Davidson, I had a go at making some of my own Faux Resin Dots. Using a standard hole punch, I punched some cardstock, placed them onto the Silicone Mat and added some Fine Tip Glue piled up on top. Allow them to dry fully (a few hours), before adding them to your card with a glue dot.

On the inside, I added an offcut of the DSP and stamped the sentiments with Night of Navy ink and the stars with Pacific Point ink.

  1. Fabulous card Kate. So great to see a masculine version of the sketch. l love that you applied different texture to each of your triangles.

  2. Thanks for the tip on the resin dots. Yours look fabulous. Great way to coordinate elements in an inexpensive and fun way. I also like the way your masculine card turned out. It made me think shirt, pants, belt and those little triangles could be pocket hankies. I love the inside card a lot, thanks for sharing that portion too. All in all a wonderful take on the sketch!

  3. What a great masculine card Kate! I love your resin dots and the sharp masculine lines of this card, but I actually can’t believe it’s Pacific Point – I would have sworn it was Pretty Peacock! Isn’t it amazing how the colour of ink and card stock can change with the light?
